Meistereckhart

Asteroid 85179, Meistereckhart, was discovered on October 11, 1990 by Freimut Börngen and Lutz D. Schmadel at Tautenburg, Thuringia, Germany. It has a period of 3 years, 238 days.

It was named for medieval German mystic Eckhart von Hochheim, known as Master (in German, Meister) Eckhart (1260?-1328?), a Thuringia native. His philosophy is unique, although it combines Greek, Neoplatonic, Arabic and Scholastic elements. Because part of his theological writings are in German, he influenced German language and terminology.
