Asteroid 469705, ǂKágára, a Kuiper Belt Object, was discovered March 11, 2005 by Marc W. Buie at Kitt Peak Observatory near Sells, Arizona. The observatory gets the discovery credit. It has a period of 290 years, 316 days.
It was named for ǂKágára, god of the lightning in the mythology of the |Xam (San) people who live mainly in western South Africa. ǂKágára and his brother-in-law !Hãunu had a fight necause ǂKágára had been told by his parents to bring his younger sister,!Hãunu's wife, home. ǂKágára killed !Hãunu and he died slowly, thundering. This story is traditionally told to San children to explain thunder and lightning.
ǂKágára has a moon called !Hãunu.
The influence of asteroid ǂKágára seems to be informed by this: bringing down the rain, raising the storms.
