Asteroid 9907, Oileus, a Jupiter Trojan, was discovered on September 24, 1960 Sept. 24 by C. J. van Houten and Ingrid van Houten-Groeneveld on plates taken by Tom Gehrels at Palomar Observatory near Pauma Valley, California. Oileus has a period of 12 years, 80 days.
It was named for the father of Ajax the Little, the fastest runner of the Greek heroes next to Achilles.
Astrologically, Oileus has been linked to oil by Outi Parhi, and may also refer to oily things, including an oily way of speaking.
The glyph for Oileus is mine.
