Ogmios


Asteroid 189011, Ogmios, was discovered July 8, 1997 by the OCA-DLR Asteroid Survey at Caussols, Alpes-Maritimes, France. It has a period of 1 year, 306 days.

It was named for Ogmios (or Ogma), the Celtic patron god of scholars and the personification of eloquence and persuasiveness, who invented Druidic runes and ushered souls into the afterlife. Ogmios is represented as a bald old man in a lion skin. He is often identified with the Greco-Roman gods Hercules and Hermes.
