Asteroid 25143, Itokawa, an Apollo asteroid, was discovered on September 26, 1998 by the LINEAR Project. It has a period of 1 year, 191 days. It was the first asteroid to be the target of a mission to return samples, the Japanese space probe Hayabusa.
It was named for prominent Japanese rocket scientist Hideo Itokawa (1912-1999).

The glyph for Itokawa is mine and is the name of the asteroid in Japanese script.
